Oak & Analytics — Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 21, 2026
Oak & Analytics ("the app", "we") is a bourbon discovery and tasting-journal
app. This policy describes what information the app collects, how it is used,
and the choices you have. The app is intended for users of legal drinking age
(21+ in the United States).
Information we collect
- Account information. When you create an account we collect
your email address (and, if you sign in with Google, your name and profile
identifier as provided by Google). Authentication is handled by Google
Firebase Authentication.
- Content you create. Your shelf (bottles you track), tasting
notes, tasting-room sessions, and label photos you choose to upload are stored
in Google Cloud Firestore and Cloud Storage, associated with your account.
- Barcode scans. When you scan a bottle barcode, the UPC code
is sent to our servers to identify the bottle. Scans of codes our catalog does
not recognize may be looked up via third-party product databases and web search.
Confirmed UPC-to-bottle mappings and label photos are shared anonymously with
other users to improve scanning for everyone; they are not linked to your
identity in the app interface.
- Purchase information. If you purchase a Pro subscription or
lifetime unlock, the purchase is processed by Apple (App Store) or Google
(Google Play), depending on where you installed the app. We use RevenueCat to
validate purchases and manage subscription status. We receive purchase state
(product, expiry) but never your payment details.
- Camera. The camera is used only to scan barcodes and to take
label photos you explicitly choose to upload. Images are not collected in the
background.
How we use information
- To provide the app: sync your shelf and notes across devices, identify
scanned bottles, and unlock Pro features you have purchased.
- To improve the shared bottle catalog through anonymous crowd-confirmed
barcode mappings and label photos.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use
it for third-party advertising.
Service providers
We rely on the following processors to operate the app:
- Google Firebase
(authentication, database, storage, cloud functions)
- RevenueCat (purchase
validation and subscription management)
- Apple and Google (app store payments)
Data retention & deletion
Your data is retained while your account is active. You can delete individual
shelf bottles and tasting notes in the app at any time. To delete your account
and its associated data, you can delete it directly in the app (go to your
Account screen and select Delete Account) for immediate deletion. Alternatively,
follow the steps on our
account deletion page — we process requests
within 30 days. Anonymous crowd contributions (barcode confirmations and label
photos) may be retained because they are not linked to your account in the
shared catalog.
Children
The app is not directed at children and requires users to confirm they are of
legal drinking age. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 21.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time; material changes will be reflected
by the "Last updated" date above.
